It has been announced that Creepy Nuts will perform the opening song for the DAN DA DAN anime. The song is titled “Otonoke,” while the anime by Science SARU is set to have its world premiere at Anime Expo on July 6. The hip hop unit has become widely known to anime fans lately after the hit that was “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born,” the theme song used for MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES Season 2.
The Creepy Nuts duo consists of R-Shitei and DJ Matsunaga. The two also wrote the “Yofukashi no Uta,” which inspired the Call of the Night manga and was later used as the anime adaptation’s ending. The two commented on the new theme song:
DJ Matsunaga: “I feel the most accomplished when I’m making a song is the moment I think, ‘I created a song that doesn’t exist in this world,’ and ‘Otonoke’ is exactly that! I’m glad we made it!”
R-Shitei: “The interpretation of this story that ‘when ghosts and spirits possess people, they resonate with their pain and sorrow and form a bond’ is very similar to the way I see the relationship between the creator and listener of music, which is what inspired me to write this song.”
DAN DA DAN is set to premiere in October, with Crunchyroll and Netflix streaming it. Studio Science SARU (DEVILMAN crybaby, INU-OH, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, The Colors Within) is in charge of the animation, with Fuga Yamashiro (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, The Heike Story) as the director. Composer kensuke ushio (Chainsaw Man, DEVILMAN crybaby, The Colors Within) is also part of the staff, handling the musical score.
The DAN DA DAN anime is adapting the Japanese manga by Yukinobu Tatsu. The manga began serialization in 2021 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service.
Synopsis:
DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult freak. The two of them start talking after Momo rescues Okarun from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them – Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings, and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces! Their fateful love begins as well!?
The story of the occult battle and adolescence starts!
GKIDS already announced that they’ve acquired the theatrical and home entertainment rights for the DAN DA DAN anime.
